Why Buy This Book?
Sure, there are plenty of ballet books for kids out there. What makes this one so special?
Teachers everywhere will be able to relate to that wincing feeling a dancer gets, as they glance through the pages of a children’s ballet book, only to find colourful images of sickled feet, bent legs, bad posture and sloppy lines.
Well dancers, wince no more!
This book was created by a professional ballet teacher to be the perfect accompaniment to your child’s regular training. The illustrations, while engaging and attractive for children, are anatomically and technically correct, the ballet content is age and level appropriate, the characters are charming and relatable, and the high quality, glossy finish puts this book in a league of it’s own.
A perfect gift that will please both your child, AND their dance teacher!

Meet The Author

Lucy Costelloe
Dance Teacher & Choreographer
Author & Illustrator of the Miss Emilia Books
Hello, I’m Lucy Costelloe and I’m from Manchester, England. I trained in UK at Northern Ballet School, where I also earned my teaching qualifications, and I have been working professionally as a dancer, teacher and choreographer for over 25 years.
My first professional dance contract took me on tour through Austria, Switzerland and Germany, and after a few years teaching and performing in Vienna, I eventually joined the cast of Tanz der Vampire in Hamburg and moved to Germany permanently. From there, I went on to perform in many musicals, including Dirty Dancing, Addams Family, Hairspray, Crazy For You, and more.
Throughout those years performing on stage, I never stopped teaching, and for many years I worked in some of Germany’s top professional musical schools, such as Joop van den Ende Academy and Stage School Hamburg, as well as teaching children at International School of Hamburg.
Several years ago I moved out of the city for a quieter life, but I still teach at several dance schools, I give regular workshops and masterclasses in institutions across Europe, I am a dance competition judge, and I continue to produce, direct and choreograph live shows and events.
And now I’m author, illustrator and publisher of the Miss Emilia Books!
I searched high and low for a book that I could recommend to my young students, a book that would nurture good technique from a young age and encourage them to practise safely, but also something fun and relatable that they’d enjoy reading. The technique books were often too serious and adult, while the colourful images in the kids books were rarely helpful for learning ballet, and often, anatomically incorrect. The hole in the market for good quality, technically sound learning books was staring me in the face. Over the course of a year, I spent all the free time I had creating a product I could be proud of, working on the digital artwork, researching self-publishing and collecting market reserach, but finally, the Miss Emilia series has come to life and I am thrilled at the reaction from children, parents and teachers so far!
I sincerely hope you all enjoy the Miss Emilia Books and I would really appreciate your reviews and feedback.
